NFL 2006 ATS FOOTBALL CHALLENGE .500!

The results are in my friends.
I went 9-6-1 in my picks last week enabling me to finish at an even .500 for the year with an overall record of 128-121-7.

A hard fought season.
Now I can rest throughout the playoffs, lick my beer, and heal.

Joe's early take on the playoffs:

Wild Card round:

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS 61/2 Kansas City Chiefs
INDY

Can K.C. play ball control and milk the clock on offense by running Larry Johnson keeping Manning and Co. off the field? In spite of Herm Edwards toughness and love for the D, K.C. doesn't have the pass D to handle a shootout and would have to rely on key turnovers to keep it close. Indy is the only team to give up 100+ yard rushing in all 16 games this season. I like their explosiveness, take Indy @ home.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS 3 Dallas Cowboys
Dallas
Both teams limped into the playoffs and while Seattle is at home I like Dallas just enough in an upset so take the FG and run.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES 6 1/2 New York Football VaGIANTS
PHILLY
Eagles are on a roll with last 5 games and I don't see the lackluster VaGiants stopping them or covering here. Game plan will be to run Tiki run but Eagles won't let themand Eli will have to win one at the Linc, not likely.

NEW ENGLAND 9 New York Jets
NY Jets *

Revenge game for Bellicheck, it's the playoffs, in Foxboro, and Brady to win the game but I think the Jets D will keep it within a TD so take the points.

Inspected by

Flipped it over and went 10-6 last week, evening me up for the year at 80-76-4.
Perhaps the underdog strategy worked?

This week:

Miami -3 vs. DETROIT (39)
DET
turkey, at home, and Miami's offense was a turkey last week.

DALLAS -11 vs. Tampa Bay (38½)
Dall.
Don't like the points, but if they can beat Indy by 7 this should be dessert.

Denver -1½ vs. KANSAS CITY
Den.
Still don't like Green yet, other than the 4th quarter drive he looked pedestrian the whole game against Oakland.

MINNESOTA -6 vs. Arizona (38½)
Minn.
Minnesoata's offense looks tired but Arizona is worse. Probably should take underdog, but its Arizona...

Carolina -5½ vs. WASHINGTON (36)
Car.
Another patented Carolina 2nd half of the season surge...

NEW ENGLAND -3 vs. Chicago (38)
N.E.
Better rounded team.

Cincinnati -3 vs. CLEVELAND (42½)
Cin.
Cinncy has to beat someone.

N.Y. JETS -5½ vs. Houston (39½)
NYJ
Jets need this game to keep pace with NE.

Jacksonville -3 vs. BUFFALO (37)
Jax.
Playing for wild card and they are on the outside looking in. Garrard played well agst banged up Giants.

ATLANTA -3 vs. New Orleans (46½)
New Orleans
toss up, dog

N.Y. Giants -4 vs. TENNESSEE (42½)
NYG
Time for Eli and company to man up.

SAN DIEGO -10½ vs. Oakland
S.D.
I wouldn't bet my house on it, but it looks good.

BALTIMORE -3 vs. Pittsburgh (39)
Balt.
Ravens drive the final stake through Steelers dream of playoffs.

ST. LOUIS -6 vs. San Francisco (46½)
S.F.
Like Niners to cover thisone, they are only a game out of division lead after win over Seattle.

INDIANAPOLIS -12½ vs. Philadelphia (47)
Ind.
With McNabb now out, this game turns into a dog.

SEATTLE -7 vs. Green Bay
GB
Taking the dog, just because its Hasllebecks first game back and he should be rusty and the spread is 7

Oceans 11 (2)

2nd Worst week of the season 6-10 dropping me below .500 for the year at 70-70-4.
Underdogs remain on fire this season (11 covers last week) 33 covers in 57 contests last 4 weeks...
Maybe I should go to the dog side?
This week:

BALTIMORE -3½ vs. Atlanta (40½)
Balt.
The last 2 weeks I knew that the Falcons could lose but thought, come on, not again,
wrong on both counts. Now with the defense hurting just can't pick em against Ravens D.

HOUSTON -2 vs. Buffalo (37)
Buff
Underdog

Chicago -4 vs. N.Y. JETS
NYJETS
Underdog

NEW ORLEANS -3½ vs. Cincinnati (49)
Cinn
Underdog, I think this will be a FG game

DALLAS E vs. Indianapolis (47)
Ind.
Parcells could make this interesting, but ride the hot horse.

MIAMI -3½ vs. Minnesota (35½)
Minn.
Another FG game.

New England -6 vs. GREEN BAY (44)
N.E.
Down year or not, NE is kicking bad teams.

KANSAS CITY -10 vs. Oakland (37)
Oak.
Too many points for Green return and Gonzalez injury, given Oaklands better play past few weeks.

Pittsburgh -3 vs. CLEVELAND (39)
Pitt.
Both 3-6 and both going nowhere fast but Pittsburgh still doesn't believe it yet...

CAROLINA -6 vs. St. Louis (43)
CAR.
Don't like the points but Carolina D is gearing up for a strong finish.

PHILADELPHIA -12½ vs. Tennessee (42½)
Tenn.
Again, too many points...

TAMPA BAY -2½ vs. Washington (35½)
T.B.
Toss up, home team.

ARIZONA -1½ vs. Detroit (46)
Det.

Seattle -4½ vs. SAN FRANCISCO
SF
Again too many questions with injured players returns, so too many points for my liking.

DENVER -3 vs. San Diego (40½)
San Diego
Should be a great close game, go with the dog.

JACKSONVILLE -3 vs. N.Y. Giants
NYG
I prefer Jax but the Garrard factor makes me suspect, Giants have a lot of injuries, toss up, take the dog...

tin

Worst week of the season 4-10 leaving me at 64-60-4 for the year.
Underdogs are on fire this season (10 covers last week) 22 covers in 41 contests last 3 weeks...

This week:

Baltimore -7 vs. TENNESSEE (38½)
Balt.
Baltimore comes in healthy and with McNair looking to prove a point.

INDIANAPOLIS -12 vs. Buffalo (45½)
Ind.
Indy will stumble one of these weeks, just not this one.

N.Y. GIANTS -3 vs. Chicago (37½) (SUNDAY NIGHT)
Chi
I think Chicago is primed for another loss but the Giants have too many key injuries to pull this one off.

ATLANTA -7½ vs. Cleveland (41½)
Atl.
Forget what I said last week, old Falcons surfaced, however, they HAVE to show up this week at home and make a statementor the wheels are off...

MINNESOTA -5 vs. Green Bay (40½)
GB
I don't like either one, but if Minnesota is having troubles scoring against SF then the dog might be a good bet.

JACKSONVILLE -10½ vs. Houston (39)
Jax
Houston, you have a problem.

Kansas City -2½ vs. MIAMI (40)
K.C.
Miami will have a tough time this week against KC running game.

PITTSBURGH -5½ vs. New Orleans (44)
N.O.
I like the Saints to cover, law of averages say the Steelers are due to win again sometime this season.

NEW ENGLAND -10 vs. N.Y. Jets (39)
N.E.
Way too much New England at home.

San Diego -1 vs. CINCINNATI (46½)
S.D.
Cinncy looks to be in trouble.

DETROIT -6 vs. San Francisco (44)
Det.
Win number 3, step right up

PHILADELPHIA -6½ vs. Washington (43)
Phil.
Hate this number, but Washington has been incredibly lucky twice this season...

Denver -7 vs. OAKLAND (37)
Den.
Oakland playing tougher, but not enough this week.

Dallas -6 vs. ARIZONA (43½)
Dall.
Dallas needs this one.

SEATTLE -5 vs. St. Louis
Sea
Don't like the number of points, but have to go with better team.

CAROLINA -9 vs. Tampa Bay (36)
Car.

Tampa is the basement dog in the NFC South this year...

even number nine

Another sub par week posting 6-8 leaving me at 60-50-4 for the year,
but it has all made for some exciting football action, so I'll take it

Atlanta -5½ vs. DETROIT (47)
Atlanta
In years past, (like 2004) this would be a game where the typical Falcons would fold up.
This isn't the typical Falcons we're dealing with.

BALTIMORE -3 vs. Cincinnati (40)
Baltimore
Defense rules.

WASHINGTON -1½ vs. Dallas (39)
Dallas
reluctant pick at best

BUFFALO -3 vs. Green Bay (40)
Green Bay
flip a coin, go with the (rectal) themometer

N.Y. GIANTS -13 vs. Houston (43)
NYG
on a roll

ST. LOUIS -3 vs. Kansas City (47½)
ST. LOU
another nail biter

CHICAGO -13½ vs. Miami (38½)
CHI
Ride this horse until shes dead...

New Orleans -1 vs. TAMPA BAY (38½)
New Orleans
Back on the winning side

JACKSONVILLE -9 vs. Tennessee (38)
Tenn
Offensive woes slow down Jacks just enough for Tennessee to cover.

Minnesota -6½ vs. SAN FRANCISCO (41)
Minn
Brad Johnson looks old enough to be a real Viking

SAN DIEGO -12½ vs. Cleveland (41½)
SD
Cleveland may be better next year. They need a line.

PITTSBURGH -2 vs. Denver (35)
Den
How is Pitt favored, desperation? They lost to the Raiders last week.

NEW ENGLAND -1 vs. Indianapolis (47½)
NE
Colts finally lose one they should

SEATTLE -7½ vs. Oakland (39)
SEA
I just cannot pick Oakland, in spite of the past 2 weeks

must be something I 8

7-6 last week for an overall 54-42-4 season record (54%)

This week’s menu:

GREEN BAY -3 vs. Arizona (44)
GB
Could be the end for Green

CINCINNATI -4½ vs. Atlanta (44)
CINN
I really want to pick Atlanta, but their secondary was shredded last week 418 yards by Roethlisberger and Batch. They need to play ball control and run the ball and keep Palmer and company on the sideline. They can’t get into a shoot out with the Bengals and I don’t see the offensive patience or defensive fortitude to pull out this road vistory.

NEW ORLEANS -2 vs. Baltimore (36½)
Balt.
Saints keep proving me wrong, should be a close game, so I am taking the dog.

TENNESSEE -3 vs. Houston (42)
Tenn.
Tennessee at home and on a roll.

PHILADELPHIA -6 vs. Jacksonville (41½)
Phil
Eagles need this game to stay competitive, Jags banged up, home fand will be looking for blood.

KANSAS CITY -3 vs. Seattle (43)
KC
Hasslebeck and Alexander out.

CHICAGO -17 vs. San Francisco (40½)
SF
Chicago’s offense was exposed, defense will play huge at home. Should be close to the 17.

N.Y. GIANTS -7½ vs. Tampa Bay (41)
TB
While the Giants bandwagon is rolling, they do have some problems defensively. I think 7.5 is too rich with the way TB is playing

SAN DIEGO -9½ vs. St. Louis (43½)
St Lou
While St Louis has only beaten one winning team, this spread is overly inflated.

DENVER -3 vs. Indianapolis (37½)
Indy
Denver has not scored more than 17 points all season.
Can their defense keep the Colts out of the end zone 3 times?
Who will make a mistake first, Plummer or Manning?

CLEVELAND -1½ vs. N.Y. Jets (37)
NYJ
Why is Cleveland favored?

Pittsburgh -9 vs. OAKLAND (39)
Pitt
Pitt has to have this win, Oakland had their super bowl last week against Arizona

CAROLINA -3 vs. Dallas (38)
CAR
Panthers (at home) are coming and Dallas is fading.

New England -3 vs. MINNESOTA (37½)
NE
Minnesota may ultimately secure a wild card, but not with a win against the Patriots.

7

4-8-1 pain last week

1 week drop of 4 percentage points (now picking with only 54% accuracy)
47-36-4

CINCINNATI -3 1/2 vs. Carolina (44 1/2)
Car
Cinncy looks soft and Carolina is playing tough now

N.Y. JETS -3 1/2 vs. Detroit (39)
NYJ
Jets are 6-0 ATS, amazing.

MIAMI -3 1/2 vs. Green Bay (40)
MIA
All dogs being equal, take the home team

Jacksonville -9 vs. HOUSTON (41)
Jax
May regret the 9 here, but I expect a turnover to help this out.

New England -6 vs. BUFFALO (38 1/2)
NE
One to feel comfortable about

Philadelphia -4 1/2 vs. TAMPA BAY (43 1/2)
Phil
May regret this one...

Pittsburgh -1 1/2 vs. ATLANTA (38)
Pitt
After last week, I just can't pick Atl

San Diego -5 1/2 vs. KANSAS CITY (43 1/2)
SD
Really considered going with KC covering, esp at home but SD looks too good.

Denver -6 1/2 vs. CLEVELAND
Den
Again a comfy pick

Arizona -1 1/2 vs. OAKLAND
Ariz
Seen lots of action on Oak, not sure why, AZ bounces back big

SEATTLE -7 vs. Minnesota (43)
Minn
Don't like the 7

INDIANAPOLIS -10 vs. Washington (49)
Wash
I think Indy will win, but there has been a huge shift in vegas betting this week on Washington which means maybe they know something I don't, so a switch

DALLAS -3 1/2 vs. N.Y. Giants (45)
NYG
FG game so take the half point.
